MUNDITECH supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015 by all member states of the United Nations, is a common approach to greater sustainability around the world. At its core are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which represent an urgent call to action by all countries - developed and developing - as part of a global partnership.

We have made it our mission to integrate sustainability into our innovation processes and are already making a valuable contribution to some key SDGs.

SDG 2: No hunger
By finishing food packaging with our sustainable hygiene coatings, we can extend the shelf life of perishable foods. In addition, the antimicrobial finish protects against contamination, e.g. when exporting food. Thus, food waste can be reduced and food security increased.

SDG 3: Health and well-being
With our unique sustainable hygiene coatings, we close the hygiene gap between disinfection cycles and create permanent antimicrobial surfaces without using toxic agents. By breaking infection chains as a result, we are now contributing to better health and safety in many areas of our society.

SDG 6: Clean water and sanitation
Laboratory tests have shown that we can sustainably disinfect water with our hygiene coatings. We will make our water treatment technology accessible to less developed regions in the future.

SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure
On behalf of the European Commission, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) recorded the production and import volumes of all reported biocidal active substances (generally environmentally harmful substances) in 2009. A total of nearly 400,000 metric tons of biocidal active substances were manufactured in or imported into the European Union alone. The largest major groups of biocides by volume (about half of all biocidal active substances) are disinfectants and algaecides, which are harmful to the environment. [1]

Our biocide-free sustainable hygiene coatings make it possible to substitute environmentally harmful antimicrobial agents in a wide range of industrial applications. In this way, we contribute to greater sustainability and environmental awareness along the value chain in industry.

SDG 12: Sustainable consumption and production
In addition to substituting biocidal agents (usually environmentally harmful substances) in industry, our sustainable hygiene coatings can also significantly reduce the consumption of harmful disinfectants. This is because our sustainable hygiene coatings have a highly efficient antimicrobial effect for up to 365 days or more (depending on surface wear) after a single application. This leads on the one hand to a significant cost saving and on the other hand to an extensive reduction in the use of toxic biocides (usually environmentally harmful substances) in the environment.

SDG 15: Life on Land:
Biocidal active ingredients are designed to repel or kill so-called harmful organisms. However, these usually toxic active substances also affect so-called non-target organisms. Thus, there is a high probability that biocidal active ingredients have an unintended effect in the environment and in humans. [1] Due to a wide variety of applications, direct and indirect inputs of biocidal products or their degradation products into the environment occur. [1] By means of the substitution of biocide products with our sustainable hygiene coatings, the uptake of harmful biocides into the environment is avoided.
